Alpaca by Design is located in beautiful Sisters, Oregon. The shop is owned and managed by me, Steve Segal. My wife and I have been involved in some way with alpacas for over 12 years. We've raised and bred alpacas, woven with alpaca yarn, and still design and co-publish Alpacas Magazine. I've always enjoyed design and working with natural fibers. It was a natural next step to open an alpaca clothing shop. Sisters was a logical location. If you've not been to our town, you should plan a visit. Located in central Oregon at the base of the Cascades, there are numerous shops specializing in unique, creative products. Quilting, weaving, spinning, knitting, pottery, beading, and other crafts are all well-represented in Sisters. There are also many art and folk-art galleries.
Designs I Specialize In
I have a saying for the shop, "This ain't your mother's poncho." Those large droopy ponchos of the 1960's and 70's were, well, shall we say unique? Designs using alpaca have come a long way since then. Today, well-known designers such as Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren are putting their models in alpaca fashions.
Many of the outstanding pieces I carry are designed in the U.S., and made in Peru by artisans who are experts at working with alpaca. I always try to carry items made in the U.S.A. as well.
